Course Offerings
Networked Learning specializes in designing professional development courses on integrating technology into the secondary and post-secondary classroom. Courses can be tailored to half-day, single-day and multi-day instructional programs. Each course challenges teachers to evaluate their curriculum content and explore ways in to integrate technology to allow students collaborate, discuss and take collective action on current issues that affect their lives.
Becoming a Networked Learner
We recommend that teachers interested in learning how emerging web-based tools can promote networked learning in their classroom begin with this course. This course focuses on becoming proficient in the social media tools that help teachers develop a personal learning network (PLN). The class includes instruction on social networking, micro-blogging, social bookmarking, and feedreaders. Emphasis is placed on how these tools can be used in the classroom to help your students identify, analyze and take collective action through their personal learning networks.
Google Apps
This survey course shows teachers how to integrate Google Apps, such as Blogger, Calendar, Docs, Earth, Forms, Knol, Search, and Sites into their class projects. Individual courses can be designed to concentrate on one or two tools and their application in the classroom. This course is recommended for teachers who have already taken the course Becoming a Networked Learner.
Tools of the Trade
This course focuses on the latest Web 2.0 tools within the categories of blogs, wikis, podcasting, vodcasting, bookmarking, and mashups. The course can be tailored to specific tools that your teachers are interested in learning. This course is recommended for teachers who have already taken the course Becoming a Networked Learner.
Designing 21st Century Learning Projects
This course helps teachers to develop collaborative, interdisciplinary projects that encourage 21st learning skills, such as research, data analysis, discourse, negotiation, global awareness, and engagement. This course is recommended for teachers who have already taken Becoming a Networked Learner and either Google Apps or Tools of the Trade.
Explore Your Earth
This multi-day course takes teachers step-by-step through a series of lessons on how to use Google Earth in their classroom to help students share and visualize your curriculum in an effort to improve understanding of the factors that affect both contemporary and historical issues. Teachers will learn how to use the basic tools in Earth, create placemarks, embed 3rd party objects, such as videos, podcasts and quizzes, and animate a series of placemarks to create virtual tours. Advanced courses can be scheduled for teachers who are interested in learning how to program in keyhole modeling language (KML) and use Photoshop in order to create dynamic and graphically pleasing placemarks.
